Post 12: Symbolism in songs and poetry

A common symbol that can be found "next to of course god America I" and "The Star Spangled Banner" is that they both symbolize patriotism here in the United States. As similar as they are, the anthem focuses more on the glory of the "land of the free home of the brave" while the poem implies more of the deeper darker side of America and it's wars. An example would be "why talk of beauty what could be more beaut-iful than these heroic happy dead who rushed like lions to the roaring slaughter." Patriotism come's in different forms depending on the perspective of the viewer.

  1. I find it very interesting how you chose these two things to compare, I would've never had the idea to do that, but still very creative, I like it!
