Post 14 Women's rights then vs. now
In the 19th century, women were not treated equally as men. Like in Nora's position, they're roles were housewives and they would tend to the homes and children rather than pursuing higher education. Now in contemporary America, women have more rights than before and are slowly bridging the gap between them and men. Women are now able to access more jobs and pursue education. They can choose to marry men or women due to the laws allowing gay rights in the US. All this didn't happen overnight but rather it took over decades for women to slowly be acknowledged by the patriarchy of the US government to realize that women can also do what men can and deserve to be treated fairly.
Yes, culture moves slowly, usually over the course of several lifetimes which makes most of us impatient, but I think we have to remember that society is a much bigger ship than any individual, and it takes a lot longer to turn it around.
